Before partnering with Game Plan, Eastern Michigan University athletics didn't have a way to give many of their student-athletes access to development programming. In particular, the staff found it difficult to schedule times and dates for in-person events give scheduling conflicts across various teams. They were looking for a way to make development programming accessible to their student-athletes whenever and wherever they want. In addition to development programming, EMU was looking to offer additional career opportunities to their student-athletes.
As a smaller student-athlete support staff, EMU's goal was to find a platform that increased their bandwidth and capabilities in order to broaden access to student-athlete development programming. They still wanted to deliver workshops, presentations, and other in-person programs but felt that their student-athletes could get even more assistance as they move through their careers at EMU.
Since partnering with Game Plan, EMU Athletics is able to offer programming to a larger portion of student-athletes. Their student-athletes now have the flexibility to complete part of their personal and professional development education online in their own time. EMU's student-athlete academic support staff can also now track engagement and participation in programs that are delivered through Game Plan (e.g. sexual assault prevention education in order to comply with the NCAA's requirements). EMU is also utilizing Game Plan's career services tools to offer their student-athletes additional opportunities for internships and full-time jobs.
The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics family believes in setting a higher standard for performance in all that they do. Their department is focused on winning in life - and challenging their student-athletes to reach their potential as individuals and as team members.
